One thing that every Internet Marketer, Small Business, SEO wannabe or Web marketing Expert desires is a lot of traffic coming to their website. Some decent traffic can lead to making some decent money.. right? but a lot of targeted traffic (instead of random traffic) can lead to even more money. This is why a lot of Internet marketers do all they can to increase traffic to their websites. So How do they get traffic? Below are 10 basic ways to increase website traffic.

#1 Articles – One of the most popular ways to increase website traffic is writing and submitting articles to article directories. These article directories allow users to add links back to their website when they publish an article. The more articles you have published at these article directories, the more traffic you can get. It helps to submit your articles to the top article directories, and off course to produce QUALITY (not rubbish) to inspire people to click back to your site. Want to learn more about Article Marketing? Check my FREEBIES … I’m giving away the best Article Marketing Guide in the Market.

#2 Social Bookmarking - The use of social bookmarking sites can also help to increase website traffic. There are a lot of popular, high traffic social bookmarking sites that allow users to submit and share their content and favorite websites. If you bookmark some high quality content from your website and allow it to be shared among others, someone may find your content and share it with their friends or even add it to their favorites and soon you will have a lot of people sharing your stuff increasing traffic to your website. Example: Get your site in the 1st page of StumbleUpon and you will be getting thousands and thousands of visitors in just 5 minutes. Targeted Traffic? Mmm not really… but at least you will be getting some traffic. (how well it will convert is a different story)

#3 Press Releases – Writing and submitting a press release is similar to publishing an article on an article directory. The only difference is that with press releases, the content is more geared towards news about products, services, etc. With articles, they are often more informational and discuss all kinds of topics. In any case, by having press releases published on the many press release websites available, you get the chance to show to the world what you have to offer and include a link back to your website. As with articles, you can get an increase of traffic from having your press releases published.
The beauty of this strategy is that you NEVER REALLY know who will pick it up… so keep in mind that a good press release with a good “news” content, can generate unlimited amount of traffic for the years to come.

#4 Forums – There are many forums online in which you can register for free and join in on the discussions being made. You can get a lot of free traffic if you were to register on forums in your niche that allowed a link to your website in the signature. Every time you make a post, you would also be showing your signature which included a link back to your website. The more people see your signature, the more traffic you can have.
Now; Be smart. Do it properly. Become an authority in the forum and traffic will flow to your site.

#5 Ads - If you want to increase your website traffic, you can easily purchase advertising on different websites and forums. You could purchase different types of ads such as text links and banners. Once your ads are placed, you will get traffic. Now you have to make sure that the site you chose to purchase advertising on gets a decent amount of traffic first or else you may be disappointed. It is important you have a clear budget and understand the quality of the traffic you are buying.
Many “SEO experts” hate paid ads. I love ads.. specially if they are from not very famous sites with healthy traffic willing to click on my amazing-banner or ad..

#6 Search Engines – mmmm remember SEO??? What the heck is SEO Gabriel? If you can get your site ranked in the search engines for some keywords related to your site, you can get some DIVINE traffic especially if the keyword phrases get a lot of searches and IT HAS TO DO WITH YOUR INDUSTRY. So if you want to increase your website traffic and ranking … mmmm READ all this blog, join SEO course… and then contact me if you have any questions

#7 Question and Answer Sites – A lot of people are unaware of the traffic that you can get just by making use of question and answer sites. These sites are those that allow users to ask and answer questions. There are quite a few of them that will allow you to leave a link back to your website in the answer if it helps answer the question of the “asker”. If you were to go to a popular question and answer site such as Yahoo Answers and answer questions in your niche leaving a link back to your website in your answer, you can get a decent amount of traffic. This system can take some time.. and I personally don’t use it because I don’t like the idea of pretending to be an expert in topics that I’m not… but is for sure a valid way of getting traffic.

#8 Blog Commenting – If you go to high traffic blogs in your niche and make some genuine comments, you can get some traffic. When you go to leave a comment on a blog, in most cases you are allowed to include a link back to your website.
When your comment is published on this high traffic blog, people can read your comment and if they like what you have to say, they may visit your website. Blog commenting can be a really good way to increase website traffic although it does involve having a good strategy. (be smart where you comment and how you comment)

Want a backlink from this site? Make a smart comment right HERE, add your URL and voila !

#9 Social Networking Sites – There are many social networking sites online. You can use these sites to network with others and also take advantage of the features these sites have. With some of the sites, there are several ways to show what you have to offer and get people to visit your website. They may allow you to post a blog, include a link back to your website, share your content with others, post videos, post photos, etc… …

#10 Quality Content (Link baiting): One of the best and most natural ways to increase website traffic is by having quality content on your website. People love quality and will automatically link to and share your website among others if they like what they see. There are SMART ways of creating viral links specially with content and I believe the BEST way to create link is via content.

Link Build Definition: Link (1) bait (or linkbait) refers to anything on a website that encourages links from other websites. It can include content, online tools, downloads, or anything else that another site owner might find compelling enough to link to. Link bait is important because most search engines use backlinks as a major factor in determining ranking.

Example of link Baiting…

I usually hate to talk about my success in the internet marketing world… but this time… I’m ready for a lovely rant.

It seems that “the nation” of the Internet, consider every single internet marketing product as … “oh my god, not another scam”.

The funny thing is that 95% of that people that are fast to point their fingers to the “scams”… usually don’t make money online, and have very little idea of how to REALLY make money online.

Once people see a “sales letter” or a “click now” “BUY NOW” or a “one time offer” they quickly go running to forums crying… “Oh my god… be careful I just saw a SCAM”.

And that’ss why…. my friends…….. that’s why people will never learn.

Internet Marketing Products, from video courses to software, from Reports to ebooks… are what they are: PRODUCTS… and these products are usually being SOLD by Internet Marketers… by people that understand how people buy and why people buy.

Internet Marketing is related to one thing : SALES.

So why are you so scared of people selling you stuff?

You go out there and buy Poison-Coca Cola every day and eat crap burgers in McDonalds but you don’t complain… but once someone tries to sell you INFORMATION , you see to start crying scared of people “scamming you”.

Do you really think that every single Internet Marketing Product is a SCAM?

Come on… wake up…

But before you write a comment, telling me how WRONG I AM… let me clarify some points.

Off course there are many “dodgy people out there”… but at the end of the day you need to understand one thing: There is no Bible about making money online. There is no one university or a title that Teaches you Internet Marketing, Online Revenue Strategies or even SEO…
because at the end of the day there is not even a legal authority that can actually provide you with advice and help regarding online business generation.

So if you don’t invest money in LEARNING… if you don’t take your BUSINESS SERIOUS … how are you going to achieve the traffic and the income from your online venture?

Last year I spend over 5K in courses, materials, software, reports and tutorials. Before you scream…. let me tell you: $5000 is nothing compared to the amount of prodcuts I wanted to buy…

Was the 5K worth the investment? You bet.

Why? Thanks to what I learned I have recovered my money at least 20 times…. yep… you do the maths.

That’s why every month I make more money than the month before… because I invest in my own development. I invest money in Learning from people that have achieved success in different areas in the online marketing world.

So what’s the lesson to learn?

Be smart… try to learn as much as possible from every single point of view.

SEO is great… but is not the only theory / strategy or system out there.

I love SEO… but I’m not stupid… if SEO stop working in 10, 12 years… I Need to have a plan B.

So what’s your PLAN B?

I seriously believe, that If you really want to win in this game you need to learn as much as possible…. go out there and learn about viral marketing, ppc, ppv, CPA offers, landing pages, affiliate marketing, social media, list building, copy writing, and conventional offline marketing.

If a product can TEACH YOU something NEW… my advise is BUY IT

You are the only one that is in charge of your own training and learning. The less you learn… the more your competition learns and BELIEVE ME, one day they will be ahead of you.

So next time you claim that a product is a SCAM… do the research… investigate a bit more… and ask yourself this:

Why If I could Learn just 1 thing that could increase my business?
What if I could open my mind to a new possibility of traffic, income, revenue and customers?

But hey… may be I’m wrong… may be Internet Marketers are just a gang of horrible people, living in caves, making plans to take the world… and in the process, steal the numbers of your credit card.

Rant off. Going to bed. Enjoy

mmm what’s next? the Internet is Evil also?

This may well be a technique of driving visitors to your site that you have already used, but here are a couple of small ‘wrinkles’ that may help you to do this a lot more effectively.

Firstly, if you have your own blog site, then you are no doubt more than aware that an awful lot of the incoming comments that people leave on your blog site are complete and utter garbage! —. I know you know what I mean.

Those that are not advertising Viagra or promoting adult sites will often say nothing more interesting or engaging than ‘very interesting blog. well done’ or ‘excellent advice. thank you’.

Such comments add nothing whatsoever to the quality of the blog site, and as a consequence, any sane blog site owner will simply delete such nonsense comments before they ever see the light of day on the site itself.

Which I am sure I am not alone in thinking amounts to a complete waste of time for both the commenter and the blog site owner too.

But, the fact is that most blog site owners are more than happy to have valuable comments added to the site, and therefore all you need to do is make sure that you actually say something when posting a comment and everyone is likely to be happy!

So, you need to find blog sites that are working in your niche so that you can eave appropriate comments on them.

How do you do this?

Well, the first method would be to open up your favorite search engine such as Google, Yahoo or Bing, and type in ‘XYZ blogs’ (XYZ being your topic) and see what results came up. In this case I will type “SEO blogs”

This however is likely to be a time consuming and frustrating experience as many of the sites that you will find will have little or no relevance to your own niche targeted site.

The second option is to use software like Blogfinder… what this does is search all WordPress blogs for postings that feature content related to your niche targeted site, based on the key word or phrase that you input to the software itself.

It will also all indicate the Google page rank of the blogs that it finds as well, so that you will immediately know which sites are the most important ones to try to post comments on.

So, once your list of blogs sites is sorted according to PR, you simply post high-quality comments to each blog on the list.

Incidentally, the paid version of this type software allows you to post comments to blogs sites hosted on many other different blogging platforms.

The idea of posting comments on high PR blog pages is twofold:

• It can drive real human visitors to your site, and

• It can create back links to your site as well.

As you have read from my previous posts… back links of this type are becoming increasingly important as the major search engines like Google and Yahoo are giving increasingly high priority to ‘off page’ search engine optimization tactics like linking, with ‘on page’ tactics like old fashioned keyword stuffing quickly becoming less critical.

However, please note that I have used the phrase ‘can create back links’, rather than ‘does create’.

This is because WordPress blogs in their default state will have what is known as the ‘no-follow’ tag activated on the ‘comments’ page, unless the blog owner has changed it.

What this means is that, should you leave a comment on someone else’s blog, the next time that Google spiders visit that blog, the spider will NOT follow the link from your comment back to your site. Thus, you are effectively losing search engine ‘credit’ and incoming links.

Unfair? you bet… but SEO is unfair so deal with it… and move on..

So should you be posting comments in HIGH Traffic Blog Sites? You bet. You can’t go wrong. Just be decent, write good content and do it often enough to increase backlinks, reputation and readers back to your blog.

Mmm today I woke up with the need of wasting money online… So I found a great idea to help you waste your money: Australian Certified Website.

The idea is not new… “apply today to get your site certified with us and receive the great honor of having our “certification” in your website.

Although this idea exists in other countries with a big more professionalism … I found this Australian version a complete joke.

the Slogan of the site is “restoring confidence” … and I can’t stop asking myself: Restoring confidence in what?

The terms and conditions to be “approved” as an Australian Certified website seem so irrelevant that I clearly don’t see the point of being certified by a website run and own by one sole trader with zero approval or support of any other organization or leader in the industry.

Some of the of their conditions instead of restoring my confidence, give me more doubts than anything..

Have reasonable contact methods

I love the idea of “Reasonable” … mm is email reasonable? I presume MORSE code is not Reasonable.
What about If I don’t want to be contacted? or what if I want to be contacted only via SMS? is that reasonable…?

Have Australian telephone numbers

This is a nice idea… but anyone with skype can buy an Australian Skype number and redirect them to their evil HQ…

Their home or office is located in Australia

Well… to register a .com.au you need to be located in Australia, but regardless… why is this relevant? If you are buying digital product, or watching a video online from X website… why do you need to know their office is located in Australia?

Stock is distributed from Australia

Interesting point but very unlikely that they check that every single stock item is being sent from Australia…

The site is legitimate (provides products or services that it claims)

I doubt that Australian Certified Website really goes in the trouble of checking this. Do they purchase all the products to verify their are LEGITIME?

No discriminating, illegal or offensive content

Mmm we are entering a difficult area. What is offensive content for you? Is this what is offensive for Jessica Urquhart, the owner of Australian Certified Websites? so if my site posts a joke about certain religion… do I fail the approval process? By posting THIS post am I offeding Australian Certified Website?

Complies with ACMA codes of practice including 18+ content

Well the ACMA code of practice is not only complex but it requires serious research , specially in the e-marketing and email delivery code and standards. Once again (may be I’m wrong) I doubt that enough amount of time is spend to verify that the e-marketing code of practice put by the ACMA is followed.

Example: Australian Certified Website HAS a newsletter… but the newseltter system is hosted by Your Mailing Listing Provider

http://whois.domaintools.com/yourmailinglistprovider.com

your Mailing Listing Provider IS NOT an Australian company or has to follow the rules of the ACMA… so you may have a website that follows Australian ACMA rules… but your email delivery solution can be hosted in a country with differnet law regarding privacy and online marketing?

The website has payment options through an Australian bank

Holy cow… so if you use Paypal… you can’t be verified my friends. Because remember: Paypal is not an Australian Bank.

Overall I think this points don’t bring any confidence at all. Instead it will be good to see some REAL conditions.

What about

Ecommerce Standards and Certified SSL – online payment systems

What about a Privacy Policy ?

may be the support of a 3rd Party Guarantee… what about including being certified by someone like TrustE or Comodo

Certified agreement for customer resolution?

Browser and Privacy Safety —> following a similar idea as Verisign

It seems to me the idea of Australian Certified website is… well, cute… but we need to be professionals here. Online trust is a serious issue, in fact is something companies spend millions trying to build, grow and mantein… I doubt a $12 investment per year and a dead ugly logo is going to increase customers “trust” in any Australian company brand, ecommerce or service provider.

For more info:

TRUSTe is an independent organization whose mission is to build users’ trust and confidence in the Internet by promoting the use of fair information practices

Comodo is the Higher Certificate Authority. Dedicated to keeping our customers one step ahead, we have ensured that Comodo SSL is 2048-bit ready to keep our customers safe for the next 20 years

Verisign Extended Validationl “EV, or Extended Validation, provides the same strong level of security as traditional VeriSign® SSL Certificates, but with an added feature. When a customer visits a secure page using an EV-enabled browser, the address bar turns green, immediately alerting the customer that it’s safe to proceed with a transaction.”

Contrary to the claims of high priced search engine optimization houses, optimizing your site for search engines does not involve any rocket science. Simply first of all you must admit the reality that “crawlers” (the search engine program that check online web pages) do not read non-HTML scripts. This is why the 1st step that any search engine optimization expert takes (prior to look into your keywords or revising your copy) is to check your sites script.

If your web pages are stuffed with JavaScript, graphic navigation, cheap animation, and other shining stuff, your chances of ranking high in the search engines sink like a ship. The crawlers may never even detect your site or never add your web pages to their search outcomes.

You think you just can’t give up those chill Java Scripts or flashing graphical presentation. Then get ready to be banished by the search engines. Crawlers are programmed for simply two things:
Reading basic hypertext mark-up language and text.
If your web site causes hindrance in their path get ready to hand over yourself to obscurity and impoverishment!

The most significant search engine optimization secret you will ever know is really very straightforward. Your site must be designed so crawlers can detect your text. The text is where the gold is. This shows no cheap animations. Your HTML must be simple and easy to understand. Your graphical banners and animations must be minimized to a maximum. And data links should must be in text – not JavaScript buttons or flash menus.

Billions of dollars are consumed in order to outsmart the Search Engines and every year a lot of stupid people loose a lot of money by doing this. To cut the long story short, neither you, nor any software system, nor any automatically submission site, nor any search engine optimization expert, can pull strings of Google for long! Google hires too many Brainy Technologists. Their brains are hires to concentrate on one Job – to craft Google outcomes as appropriate as possible. These folks formulate Google’s algorithm – a numerical technique that settles your rank. Google changes, they change every month, with new policies, new changes to the algorithm and new rules and policies.

The log is unbiased. The log is complicated. Work With The SEs – do not attempt to outsmart the search engines The logs not human set your link popularity. Rank is decided on web popularity and in a few words in inbound links. Your chances of beating the algorithm to gain a 1st spot without any link building are ridiculously little. So besides pocket your money on Search engine optimization devices, invest in hiring a company that can provide you a serious link building strategy.

Besides attempting to manipulate the SEs, establish a site that does not conflict them. Avoid cheap schemes or companies that keep trying to overcharge you based on how complicate “the internet really is’ .
Ranking site is in fact easy if you understand that you need to follow a path, a struture and a proper strategy. cus on schemes that assist you save time, add true worth to your web site, and plan to work side by side with the SEs. Do not attempt to outsmart the search engines. Do work with them, not in their opposite direction. So make your life easy and get yourself a proper Internet Ninja to help you to rank .

I recently had a friend that went to an SEO conference in Melbourne where Australian businesses owners paid over $900 to attend a series of lectures where many famous SEO experts, revealed for hours the most confidential and exclusive SEO theories, concepts and best practices to achieve top position in Google.

What I find interesting is that usually 99.9% of the people that will leave this type of conference will never implement any theory, concept or strategy for a very simple reason: SEO Experts, tend to complicate the SEO industry .

So when I think about the $900 invested in a weekend of SEO wisdom, I can’t stop thinking … mmm what a waste of money!

The reality is that I’m a true believer that when SEO companies experts approach to potential clients they have one objective in their mind: To complicate them, to confuse them, to explain things with so many technical terms, than the normal Joe the Business man will simply believe he can’t take control of his own company SEO strategy.

Paying $900 for a SEO conference is not a lot, specially if you can find SEO concepts that will help you to build your traffic and most important increase your ranking, but usually these conferences don’t go straight to the point, and they fail to explain clearly what the exactly you need to do to increase your keyword ranking.

Also, paying $900 to hear an SEO guru tell me that…
“To make it in your Search Engine Optimization and Internet marketing arena, you just need to have passion about your business. Write good content and traffic will come” … makes me extremely sick in my SEO tummy .

The advice that traffic is related with good content is a typical typical lame lie, that many SEO companies love to tell their clients, because at the end of the day, it sounds better to say:
“sorry you need to improve your content to be Number 1″
instead of
“Don’t worry about the content, instead go out there and get more links for your site”

Believing that Google understand the amazing quality of your content, and that by just the nature of your words’ you will rank in 1st position, is like telling kids that Santa is in fact the biological father of the Eastern Bunny : It is not true .

If you don’t believe me try to see how many times you find Harvard University ranking in 1st position for any term? Mainly because the quality of the content is not equal to ranking or traffic.
So, why are so many gurus telling companies you that they write great content, and if you are passionate about their industry, they will sooner achieve, position 1 in Google for their selected keywords, if they keep sticking to build the best content possible ?

Well, the main reason is because many of these gurus are gurus by teaching people how to rank, but not by ranking their own sites. The love to talk about SEO, but they don’t make a living from optimization their own sites, or by building niche / industry related sites.

How many of these Gurus are ranking 1st for the keywords loans or mortgages? for sure none of them, instead of all them work for other companies, providing advice and consultancy services.
It seems we keep forgetting that SEO is about one thing: Being 1st in Google. That’s it. Nothing else. if you can’t be 1st in Google for your term, you are loosing the battle and another site, anther company is getting your visitors, your users, your potential customers and your money.

But again, nobody tells you that when you spent $900 in a SEO conference. Instead they will tell you about the relevance of social media , networking, youtube, forum postings, facebook advertising, etc. It seems like a funny conspiracy to make you believe that to rank you need to make friends, and work hard to make people love your site.

“Create great content and then traffic will follow” — are you for real?

So what happens then? You, or the poor beginner that saved the money to pay the amazing SEO conference, start to follow the advise of these gurus.

They open a Twitter account, they create a myspace profile, they try to comment in all the forums in the world trying to get new visitors, and after spending 10 to 15 hours per week, they discover after a few months, how useless and exhausting all these type of tasks.

The Truth is that SEO conferences will not be so interesting if the SEO expert will tell you the things in PLAIN and RAW English, like the reasons why people don’t manage to rank their sites.
Are you ready for the truth?

1. People are lazy, not just lazy, but usually professionally lazy, so lazy they are perfectly happy to pay $900 just to hear the secret that will tell them how to RANK fast. People want a magic bullet, a quick fix, a fast solution. People don’t want to realize that ranking a website is like building a businesses, it takes hours and hours of sacrifice, work and dedication.

2. Just 3 Steps: Ranking one website has to do with 3 basic things: Keyword research, SEO content and Link Building.

3. Is all in the Links Baby: If you don’t link build you will not rank. That’s it. Link building is boring (in fact it is one of the most boring things you can do….), but if you don’t do it, your site is worth nothing. the more you link build the more “brownie points’ you have in the eyes of Google Santa.

4. Forget about the Content. You don’t need to have 1000 friends, followers or network’ partners to rank. Even your content doesn’t need to be just amazing . In fact I have sites that rank 1st in Google with content that seems written by a 7 year old french kid with very basic level of English. (well, actually I am a 1/2 french, 1/2 Colombian guy leaving in Australia with a very strange English accent….)

5. Forget about Social traffic. If you really want to Rank, forget about the social hype, Twitter, Stumble Upon, Digg, Facebook. Social Media only needs to be done to build one thing; Links – not friend, not cool internet buddies that rub your back while you believe that “everyone loves me and everyone thinks my site is great’.
Remember: Internet Buddies don’t become customers, they are internet buddies mainly because they are wasting their time “surfing” the net, instead of producing results for their own sites.

6. Links override everything: Any on site SEO errors or deficiencies, like Metatags, Titles, link structure, sitemaps, can be over ruled with contextual inbound links to your site.

7. Work it: SEO is about dam hard work, about doing the same thing over and over again: Producing links to your site – that’s it. That is the secret (I just gave you the secret without charging you $900 dollars)
Choose the right keyword, research your competition, great content with the relevant keyword and go out there, into the Jungle and build inbound links, day at night, night and day, like a beast. The more your build the stronger your site will become.

So what about Links? Is just getting link like a manic? Well, kind of , but we need to understand that not all links are the same.

The kind of Links we want are off a high Google PR page or site, related to our niche/industry , Links that have been indexed by google for a while, links that are inside content that is related to your industry …
Also we want to have our keyword anchor in the link and we want to be sure we don’t give away links out of site to every single person out there.

Confusing? Well, not really, it is just a method a system, and what internet marketers really need to do, to rank sites is to build links, to create link building strategies.
And believe me, it is not exciting it is boring, it is tedious, you have to do it none stop and once you think you are doing keep doing it again.

Do you need any more secret info to increase the ranking in your site? I don’t think so. The problem with small website owners is that they spend hours trying to learn everything about Search Engine Marketing, instead of deciding to do something about it. Small businesses owners love to think about their site, instead of working in their site.

So now that you saved the $900, what can you do with that money? invest it in your online marketing strategy, buy domain names related to your site, create some extra blogs, or pay an SEO monkey like me, to do just one thing; Link building….
….. because only when you build you will get that organic traffic that is free, effective and converts.
