Hey guys, I’m on a small SEO-business-fun-trip here in Sydney. As many of you know I live in a small coastal down in South NSW… so I usually don’t go to the big City! Anyway… so I decided to write a new post about SEO. (you may find this info a bit basic – specially if you an SEO expert!)

So let’s talk about our website content…
and the relation of this content with our readers while keeping in mind SEO.

A website is more than likely ineffective if it has no written content. Web content typically comes in the form of articles, product descriptions, and blog entries. Without web content, users visiting your site will not get the information they need and will probably abandon it.

Likewise, not having web content will make it impossible for search engines to index and rank your website so that it appears on search engine results pages (SERPs).

Additionally, web content should be of high quality as it contributes to the overall image of your company. So how should you create your web content so that it benefits the message and visibility of your website? Here are a few factors to consider when setting out to create web content for users as well as search engines.

Written content on your website serves two purposes.

First, content is full of keywords related to the main topic of your website allowing search engines to index it. Once indexed, your site can be found if a user types in some of the same keywords found within your content pages. Second, content serves the purpose of providing helpful information to the user visiting your website. Given these two purposes, your web content should be written so that it fulfills the objectives of both.

What are your options for creating web content? You can write the content yourself, hire a skilled web content writer, or purchase pre-written content. If you have the time and ability, writing it yourself will ensure that it is the way you want it. By hiring an experienced web content writer, you can leverage his or her knowledge of web content writing techniques.

Then, there is the option where you can purchase pre-written unique content or from businesses that create what is known as Private Label Rights (PLR) articles.

PLR is an economical way to get a high volume of content quickly but there is a chance that it will not be unique. Whether you create it yourself or buy, you should be able to check the quality of your content before posting it.

Understand the reading habits and preferences of your users. Users do not have time to read every word of your content. They are also not impressed by meaningless sales pitches and colloquialisms. This is why it is important that your content stick to accepted practices of business writing.

That is, the content should be concise and to the point. It should be organized in short paragraphs that stick to the main idea in their topic sentences. Organizing the content in clear paragraphs makes the text such that a user can quickly scan it and pick out the important information without reading each word. It should contain the keywords you are focusing on so that a user can find your site using the same but it should not be saturated with them.

Saturating web content with keywords will not only turn off a user but your website could get penalized by the search engine for keyword spamming. So you need to be smart and try to keep a healthy balance.

…. so… tonight I will be flighing back home and back to my normal quite life, working in SEO… building my own sites and helping my lovely clients to achieve higher ranking.

I just spoke to one of my new customer… and God… I’m angry.
Mainly because I hate when small businesses with not a lot of SEO knowledge get bully by “SEO companies” and lately I have seen so many cases of this type of “web marketing experts” taking advantage of their clients websites.

This is my top 5 on how to detect if your web marketing company is a bully

1) Your web company tells you that a CMS (content management system) is simply tooo complicate and expensive to setup. That is better for your business to remain with a HTML static site and pay them each time you want to change any content on the site.

The reality:

Change today to a CMS… move to wordpress, joomla or drupal. Leave that company, free yourself.

CMS is the today, the tomorrow… the future.

Real internet marketing companies should allowed their clients to create their own content. Remember: You are the expert in your own industry. So why limit the capacity you may have of creating a bigger, larger and better website.

2) Your SEO company offers guarantee 1st place for keywords that nobody looks for.Reality: I love this one, because this one is so easy to apply and many bully-seo-wanna-be-experts apply this …

I love the sentence: “We rank 1st of a keyword with more than 100.000.000 results in Google”.

Ranking 1st means nothing for a low quality keyword.

No traffic in that keyword highway mate?

3) Your SEO company decided to add their lovely links in your website footer.

Reality: Come on guys! Do you really need to sneak a link in a footer… just because you DID the job? Are you so starving for links? Is that your best SEO strategy? Take all their google juice and send them to your website? It feels like when you buy a car and the car dealers sticks a horrible red sticker in the back of your car:

“Another car sold by Bully the Car dealer”

4) Adwords is the best way….for us to make money FROM you.

this is one of the bully actions that is destroying many small businesses in Australia . The Adwords Specialist that decides to brain wash the small business owner towards the mentality of “forget SEO and instead pay us to manage your adwords campaign” . Yes boys and girls… this is the new strategy, adword companies that simply play the game of bid high, bid high while yu pay us % to manage your ads.

I love the fact that there are so-called Internet Marketing companies out there that still promote that Adwords is a better option that organic traffic.

Question for you : What happens when you stop paying for adwords? You loose the leads.

What happens when I stop paying… mmmm I don’t pay for adwords… why? All my traffic is organic.

In the last 5 days I have seen how many Internet Marketing Experts complain, cry, and have tantrums regarding “SEO”.

“I love when I read… being 1st in Google for a keyword means nothing… ”

And then I visit the website of this Internet Marketing Experts selling SEO services and surprise surprise… they can’t rank for ANYTHING.

And this my friends is the difference between selling SEO services and making a living from SEO.

In my case, my humble case… I make a living from SEO.

Why I become a SEO consultant? Because after building over 400 websites that I own and manage and ranking them to be in top position for their desired keywords I realized… mmm, I think I know what I’m doing now.. so I started to work with the owners of websites I WAS OUTRANKING.

And That is the difference.

I don’t have an ONLINE MARKETING AGENCY… where I preach about the “latest trends of SEO”… instead I have my own 500 sites that give me the data about what Google Algorithm does, and about what works and what doesn’t work.

So if your company sells SEO services, do me a favor and do a favor to your customers: Show them your rankings. Take pride on your own Ranking.

SEO is about ranking. That’s it.

If you work in Search Engine Optimization and you can’t rank… you are not good enough.

Cruel?

May be… but Ferrari was cruel with me when I applied for a F1 position last year and they wrote back saying … “no thanks Gabriel… may be next year”.

So guess what? I’m not a F1 pilot… because I can’t do it, I can’t get the job done and nobody will hire me to do the job.

So stop bashing SEO… and claim that SEO is not important… because ONLY when you get 1st position and you see your little stats going up .. up.. up… and your inbox going full… full full.. you will realize that may be … being an SEO provider that can ACTUALLY RANK a website is kind of kick-ass-Ninja-cool-thing-to-do.

Running a small internet business is not always an easy task. The biggest challenge is fierce competition from big, well-established companies. Only clever marketing strategies can help sell a small business to the huge Internet market. The only setback with marketing is that it requires huge amounts of money which most small business operators usually don’t have. However, there is hope in the use of search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is a highly effective marketing strategy that any business can employ to sell itself out without incurring much cost. That it’s fast and wide-reaching are just some of the reasons why a small business should embrace SEO as an important marketing strategy.

When you chose to begin your business, your aim was to reach a particular audience. Getting a great-looking website was the next step but you need as many people as possible to know about your site. SEO helps in marketing your products/services to this target audience and increases the number of visitors to your site.

With use of SEO, you get a lot of first time visitors to your site. SEO applies different techniques to transform them into customers. They may not buy your product/services immediately, but through follow up they could bring in lots of profits in the future. SEO makes it easy for visitors to find the information they are looking for as the site is properly optimized. This increases your rating in search engines and other online rankings. Visitors will find it easier to trust a business with such a good reputation and in no time you will have their loyalty.

SEO has the power to transform your business into a global entity. When SEO is maximized, your business gets a first page ranking and can be viewed by browsers from all over the world.

SEO requires only a little investment in terms of money but the return margins are extremely high. The trick to an increase in the number of visitors and profits is in optimizing your site appropriately. SEO enables you to easily dominate your competitors. This is how it works: the more visitors you get, the higher the amount of money you make and the bigger the volume of the site.

The last advantage of SEO which many people do not think about is that it actually helps in lowering the risk of running the business. If the market diminishes in your location, you can rely on the market in the other parts of the world to keep you going. All these reasons point out the importance of SEO for small business. Try it today and notice the transformation in your business.

Getting back links from authoritative websites will boost your search engine ranking in the long term. Spamming the forum and blog with your links is very cheap but those links are not authoritative. Authoritative links worth much more than these blog spam links. Authoritative links can be obtained from government sites and education sites. The authority of the website depends on its age and content. Domain name with .gov and .edu extensions usually have professional content written by expert and people will put their trust in them and link to them. Consequently, people will link to these sites. Any website can be authoritative.

Lots of webmasters want their websites to be authoritative so they can rank in the search engines and have many visitors to their website. To make your website authoritative, you have to get relevant authoritative websites to link to you. You will not get authoritative sites to exchange link with you wif your website does not has any useful and valuable content.

If you want to beat your competitors, you should do some research to see what authoritative sites are linking to them. Find the websites that are link to them and has the highest page rank. Once you know which authoritative websites are linking to them, you should devise a content strategy so that they will be interested in you. Make sure the content of your website is relevant, non commercial and good quality so that your website will be an attractive page to link to.

A campaign to get a link from authoritative site can take a few months. You must be prepared to build a relationship with these authoritative sites in order to get them link back to you. You should not just request for a link in your first email to these authoritative site. The authoritative sites will never link to you with the purpose of helping you to make money. They will only link to you if your site has content that is useful to their website audience because their primary concern is their users.

Do research on their needs. Figure out how you can meet their needs. A way to do this is to review the things written by them in the past which expressed a need, for example, “Our website needs a resource to …” When you find out their need, do whatever you can to address and fill their need.

The Importance of Outbound Links

Everyone is paying attention to how inbound links can improve their website ranking. Webmasters often focus too much on inbound links and neglected the importance of outbound links. Outbound link is a URL is a link to an external site from a site. Outbound links let the search engines sees what the webmaster of the website values most.

You don’t want outbound links if your website is selling a product or service as these outbound links will be an exit loop hole and may drive your customers to their website instead. However, if your website sells affiliate products, you should have outbound links as they will help you to make money. A blog is a different compare to a static website. You can write the latest information in your blog and link to relevant websites and it will appear at the top. You want your readers to participate in your blog through blog comment, trackbacks, and et cetera. Therefore, a blog is a good place for outbound link.

Outbound links can boost your search engine ranking and gives your website many benefits if you do it correctly. Outbound links let your readers know that you are authoritative site because you are willing to link to quality website with useful information. Outbound links automatically ping back a trackback to the linked site and deliver traffic to your blog. Search engines bots and your readers will look at the relevant outbound links of your website to authoritative websites before they will attribute your website with respect and authority. The reputation of your blog will increase within your industry, potential customers and current customers if you always link to authoritative sites for their useful information.

If your blog only link to pages within your sites with relevant anchor text, it will hurt your SEO ranking in the long term. Google will see your blog as a spam and therefore your trust rank will decrease as well as search rank. However, if you regularly link out to quality authoritative sites relevant to your niche, you will get a boost in SEO ranking and the page rank of your blog will increase and not decrease.

Although outbound links is only a small measure to the authority of a website, they plays a vital role. A blog is social and if it only link internally, it does not provide social proof and will likely to have little authoritative value. Therefore, outbound link is an important part when you are trying to improve your SEO ranking.

Organic Links vs. Paid Links

Google had been spoken a lot about their policy in paid links and have taken action on it. Although Yahoo and MSN also indicate that they don’t want webmasters to buy links in order to improve search engine rankings, they did not act on that policy yet.

Buying text links to increase your website’s search engine ranking and PageRank are against their guidelines. Furthermore, Google even provides a form where users can report paid link to Google. If a paid link is not relevant to your website and not useful to users, the search engines are unlikely to give it value. The algorithm of search engine is programmed to detect the value of links to users. Paid links are is not as valuable as organic links. However, if the paid links provides value to users, the search engines will capture the value from that link whether it is paid or unpaid link. Google uses algorithm and human to detect paid links.

A common point in both Google and Yahoo policies is that paid link will impact the rankings of the website. To execute against paid link, Google had suggests that paid text links should be marked with nofollow attribute. Yahoo is different with Google. Yahoo focus more on the value of the link to the end user whether it is paid or unpaid link. The value of a link is measured by the relevancy of the link to the website.

You should not depend on paid links for your search engine ranking. Organic link building is more recognized by the search engines and it’s free. Paid linking is part of link building and should be considered in your online link building campaign. Search engines like Google and Yahoo loves organic link because they count it as a vote for your site. To attract organic links, you should have good quality content that will make people want to link to your website. To create a link worthy content, you must think about what sort of content you would link to. By writing a post that is useful and interesting to your readers, people will also want to share it by linking to your site.

Instead of writing original content, you can also create a useful list of other’s people website, for example a free list of dofollow blogs. Linking to other blogs will also help you to get backlinks. Every bloggers love to see their stats and see what websites are linking to them. They will sure to check your website out and if your content is quality, he probably will give you a backlink on his blog.

How to Find Target Long Tail Keywords

Higher search engine traffic will brings many benefits to your website whether it is online retailers and affiliate marketers, this means more money can be make with increasing sales and commissions. More traffic increase to a blog will increase the blog audience and this could mean more profit from advertisement published on the blog.

To obtain consistent traffic from the search engine, you should use long tail keywords to obtain search engine traffic. Most of the time, visitors arrived at your website using low volume long tail keywords search queries instead of the major keywords. These long tail keywords focus on a specific topic and received lower volumes of search engine queries and less competition. Using long tail keyword will help your website to rank easier on the search engine and increase the overall traffic from organic search to your website.

Long tail keywords will help your website to have higher conversion rate. Visitors usually query using long tail keyword for a specific product and therefore they will be more likely to purchase your product when they arrive at your website. Long tail keywords allows you to efficiently target potential customers. It is easier to rank for long tail keywords because it has little competition. Targeting long tail keywords will gradually help your website to rank well in search engines as more pages get indexed. This increased the visibility and popularity of a website. Search engine visitors are targeted traffic because they are searching for specific information on your website and will likely to click on your ads or subscribe to your newsletter and blog RSS. This will help your website to have greater audience and increase the monetization potential for your website in the long term.

You can use online keyword research tool to find long tail keyword for example, Google Adwords Keyword suggestion tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal) and Overture Keyword tool (http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/). These keyword tools provide variations of secondary keyword from the primary keyword you type in the search box. They also let you know the search volume of every keyword. When you found your keyword, you simply query Google with the keyword and see how many results return. The lesser the results return, the lesser the competition for the keyword and the better it will be. If you have a website or blog, you should try these tips on long tail keywords and you will see that the increased traffic you will receive from the search engines.
