Hey guys, I’m on a small SEO-business-fun-trip here in Sydney. As many of you know I live in a small coastal down in South NSW… so I usually don’t go to the big City! Anyway… so I decided to write a new post about SEO. (you may find this info a bit basic – specially if you an SEO expert!)
So let’s talk about our website content…
and the relation of this content with our readers while keeping in mind SEO.
A website is more than likely ineffective if it has no written content. Web content typically comes in the form of articles, product descriptions, and blog entries. Without web content, users visiting your site will not get the information they need and will probably abandon it.
Likewise, not having web content will make it impossible for search engines to index and rank your website so that it appears on search engine results pages (SERPs).
Additionally, web content should be of high quality as it contributes to the overall image of your company. So how should you create your web content so that it benefits the message and visibility of your website? Here are a few factors to consider when setting out to create web content for users as well as search engines.
Written content on your website serves two purposes.
First, content is full of keywords related to the main topic of your website allowing search engines to index it. Once indexed, your site can be found if a user types in some of the same keywords found within your content pages. Second, content serves the purpose of providing helpful information to the user visiting your website. Given these two purposes, your web content should be written so that it fulfills the objectives of both.
What are your options for creating web content? You can write the content yourself, hire a skilled web content writer, or purchase pre-written content. If you have the time and ability, writing it yourself will ensure that it is the way you want it. By hiring an experienced web content writer, you can leverage his or her knowledge of web content writing techniques.
Then, there is the option where you can purchase pre-written unique content or from businesses that create what is known as Private Label Rights (PLR) articles.
PLR is an economical way to get a high volume of content quickly but there is a chance that it will not be unique. Whether you create it yourself or buy, you should be able to check the quality of your content before posting it.
Understand the reading habits and preferences of your users. Users do not have time to read every word of your content. They are also not impressed by meaningless sales pitches and colloquialisms. This is why it is important that your content stick to accepted practices of business writing.
That is, the content should be concise and to the point. It should be organized in short paragraphs that stick to the main idea in their topic sentences. Organizing the content in clear paragraphs makes the text such that a user can quickly scan it and pick out the important information without reading each word. It should contain the keywords you are focusing on so that a user can find your site using the same but it should not be saturated with them.
Saturating web content with keywords will not only turn off a user but your website could get penalized by the search engine for keyword spamming. So you need to be smart and try to keep a healthy balance.
…. so… tonight I will be flighing back home and back to my normal quite life, working in SEO… building my own sites and helping my lovely clients to achieve higher ranking.
