Penguin Update Survivor and yes… I’m still alive
I’m still alive baby! and yes… this time instead of writing a rant about Penguin Update, I decided to do something positive, constructive and try to help.
I know tons of people out there are upset, angry with Google and kind of lost. So here we go…. 3 videos + report… and some sweet South American touch.
Presenting…..

Penguin Survivor has been the result of 30 days of horrible phone calls… of happy customers, of customers upset, of negative SEO tests, of over-optimization, of under-optimization…. you name it.
The reality is: Google has changed the rules and future is only available for the once that want to play with Big G rules.
Easier?
Not really…
But if you want to play, and play well, the benefits will be even better.
Enjoy the product.

G’day Gab!
Man, I can only begin to imagine the amount of explaining you would have had to do with clients, and the heaps of testing needed to figure out exactly what the heck Google wants!
Thanks for the product – can’t wait to delve in!!
Cheers!

Oh, and as of 8am, our glorious AEST, searching for ‘cooking schools’ in Google Australia still delivers a very helpful and very relevant ‘ANZ ATM’ result…

I don’t if I should laugh, or cry

Hi Gabriel,
G’day from Cairns. I’m glad you’ve decided to make Australia your home.
Boy am I glad I stumbled across Penguin Update Survivor. You were right I was depressed. It’s a great video and I totally agree with everything you say. I’ve always steered clear of really spammy, link buying dodgy techniques and methods. So I’ve had no trouble before but Penguin has dropped my traffic to about 1/4 of what it was. This has really screwed my online income and I may be looking at getting a real job soon if this can’t be resolved. Noooooooo!
I run a number of sites myself. I don’t do a lot of work on SEO in terms of links etc (I should do more but I find it too boring and weird, emailing people and asking to swap). But I did have things pretty right in terms of on-page SEO. I had my keywords in the title, description, in alt and title tags etc. Anyway I checked my keyword density and it’s around 5% for some keywords. So I’m trying to resolve the issue.
I’ve changed my title and description, that’s easy. But my questions are.
Do you think all html code counts towards keyword density, i.e. should I worry about my alt tags, titles etc, or just on screen keywords? Some keyword density tools seem to include them and others don’t.
What should I be looking at, single keyword density, 2 word, or 3 word phrases, or all 3?
One particular word “review” is in a lot of different 2 word keywords but by itself it ends up with a density of 4.8%. Don’t that mean I shouldn’t worry about it because no one who searches for just “review” will ever need or want to get to my site.
Would be great if I could get your thoughts.
Thanks again for the great videos. You are a voice of reason!
Cheers

I think the key is not to think of keyword density any more… so if you have done SEO in the “SEO method” where you did 3% density, bold keyword, keyword in the title, etc… then STOP.
Instead make it natural, like if you are not trying to rank….
add more content, play the social game and wait….
the worst part is that one: waiting… because deep inside there is not ONE change you can do that will revert things… I think is a mix of many things…. trial, trial and trial…
(and luck?)

Hi Gabriel,
I find it interesting how when google releases another update like panda and penguin that companies and seo firms and the likes go into panic mode. I love it when google releases another update as they have always been kind to me and my clients – with panda there was a PR jump almost over night now I am excitedly waiting to see the results of penguin!

I have just discover your blog because someone shared your report about Penguin on FB, and I’m glad I did.
Thanks for the report, by the way.
This is the first time in many years of SEO and IM that I have been slapped by Google, and I’m still a little confused trying to figure out what to do to recover my sites’ rankings. Let’s see what happens…

I love your survival tips. This is certainly the best way to survive in a google-panda world. I think the best source of traffic for those who starting out was via social media such as Twitter and Google Plus, pinterest, myspace, kaboodle and facebook. And of course great content is key as it is a good way to get natural links back to your site. I’m just wondering if a blog page used to promote a website also helpful for organic traffic? Your advice and suggestion is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hey Gabriel, First off thanks for the videos. And secondly, what sort of results have you seen for your own clients? Are sites bouncing back quickly or slow and steady. Also, have you noticed much relevence from social media indicators. G+ likes or Facebook likes. Thanks
Matt

Matt so sorry for my very late reply.
Some clients are great, some clients not so great.
Funny wise a few clients with very specific rich domain names got hit… and also clients with a very long link building history (way before me).
Social media seem to be working BUT NOT as a way to bail out of penguin… instead as a way to increase ranking but not if the site has been penalized.
