Social Media
When was the last time you saw in television an Ad for Facebook? or about Paris Hilton?
Never.
isn’t that right? But regardless this fact, you know a lot about facebook and you like it or not you know a lot about Paris Hilton. why is this? Because this 2 “brands” have been expanded beyond any limit, to become a viral marketing dream. Social Media, social traffic love Facebook, and also loves Paris Hilton.
One of my toughest discussions in the world have been talking about Paris Hilton, and if you are a business man and want to be an Internet Ninja, you need to read this carefully, because my friend, Paris Hilton is going to teach us a good lesson today.
To start let’s analyze how Paris Hilton started her Career….
Have you ever heard any comments that Paris Hilton makes?
For sure not… for sure, you as a business person are more interested in other serious topics, but let me enlighten you, Paris Hilton is an expert in talking about other people. She talks about products, about places she eats, about companies, about brands. Paris Hilton rarely talks about herself, she talks about potential sponsors, she is a walking marketing campaign… and that’s why she is so popular - and so rich.
I know what you are thinking, she is rich because she is a Hilton - but this is where many people are wrong. Did you know that Paris Hilton’s personal Blog pulls 6 million dollars every year in marketing ads. Yes. One single page that makes more pure profit that any “normal online business” . How much money does your dive business make per year? For sure, less than 6 million in just 12 months… and guess what: That’s not even her main business !
You may think that Paris Hilton is a blond bimbo, and believe me, I know where you are coming from, but what Paris Hilton has is the attention of the world, and that attention is GOLD.
Why does Paris Hilton tour around the world? Because she is promoting others people products? Nobody cares about Paris Hilton’s songs or movies… she is a failure in all those things, but what she is an empire at being a promoter.
Remember when Paris went to Jail? OK, Paris Got 43,478 dollars for every day she spent in Jail…. The reason? Her story was a good product to sell. And people are ready to pay and read for her product/story.
So it doesn’t matter if you like her or not… she is there….
She has a market and she is making a profit from it.
And that’s the way things are. And we need to understand this, these are different times, fast times,
Consider this:
In the next 5 years, we will double the amount of information generated by all humans throughout history
We now absorb the same amount of information in one year that took 100 years to absorb in the 17th century.
I have met people that tell me that Paris Hilton is a blond bimbo that has no idea about reality or the way things “really” work.
Is that right????
Did you know that just even by mentioning Paris Hilton in your website you can potentially increase the number of hits your website will get in 1 year.
I know what you are thinking: There is no way , you would write about Paris Hilton in your website… but let’s analyze this for a minute, why is everyone talking about her? And when I mention everyone it’s everyone from CNN.com to Stock Market Blogs to trivial and silly gossip websites and magazines.
The reason is clear: she is a platform, and every single step she makes is calculated to get her image and name onto the front of a newspaper, or magazines around the world that are giving her billions in free publicity.
From time in jail to sex tapes, from television programs, Paris Hilton is a the Yoda Master of marketing strategies and if you don’t believe me yet, you can ask Bill Zanker, president of the Learning Annex company that offered Paris Hilton $1 million dollars to teach 1 hour class on “How to Build your Brand”.
All these blogs, facebook users, youtube videos, myspace adicts, and tweeter junkies, talk about Paris Hilton day and night time, increasing her “ranking” as a product, increasing her value and making her each month richer and richer.
Is all Social Media, baby…
So how does Social media traffic Works? Well, if you have 10 minutes to analyze the following graphic you may understand how many variables get involved in this process…
Getting traffic via Social media is tricky, and in my point of view (and many serious internet marketer) Social Media traffic doesn’t always equal good traffic.
What is good traffic? Traffic that converts, traffic that generates MONEY , Sales, bookings, leades.
Confused?
Let me offer the best example that I have:
In January 2007, I published in one of my blogs an article about the story behind a “Godzilla type Monster”, that was reported in a strange small village in the south of China.
This is the deal: I wrote “The Amazing China lake monster!” as the title of the news in my website. Well, that day, by an amazing and bizarre luck, MSN news, featured the news quoting my website as reference.
In less that 3 days I got over 90.000 unique visitor, just from MSN.
So how many sales or money I generated from these 90.000 visitors? Almost nothing, in fact, very, very little. The reason? Social media is more difficult to convert than organic traffic.
this is cleary not new, and even the big boys like Google know abou it.
“Google actually knows all of that, and at least 10X more data about users than Facebook, but hasn’t seen the need to really mine the data yet, since search intent has proven to be worth about 100X more than that kind of data so far.” Source
That’s why Internet Ninja believes that ORGANIC traffic wins and rules over Social media Traffic.
At Internet Ninja we work on the idea of producing results in the Organic Traffic… why? Organic Traffic (or search engine traffic) is the result of people searching for your website relevance/keyword/niche. Social Media traffic fluctuects like the stock market. Building social media traffic takes time and decidation and on the overall picture it takes a los of analysis and study to determine if the investment in time and dedication is worth the overall results.
I’m 100% sure, than many hardcore social media marketing guys, reading this, will disagree… but my advice is go out there.
Facebook, millions of users and still no profit
Youtube… still no profit.
My little organic niche site, traffic that I Know I can monetize from the first day.
What do you preffer? A site full of friends or a site with visitros that want to buy what you sell…
