Yes, that is what almost all people say actually. A link is a link. I guess you are right. But is it possible that these links make your link profile look like an SEO link profile? I have a theory that links from directories could hurt you and if you do not have link from directories there is a chance that you get high PR from very little backlinks. The theory is based on some strange stuff that happened to me, but I am not sure. For now just a theory.

Ed... difficult question. I think is a hit and miss... for sure if the directories have any weight , then there is a point... but they don't have a huge relevancy any more. I do it for my customers, mainly to increase the variety of links in the eyes of google.
Directory submission is cheap and easy.. so why not do it?
Will it make you 1st in Google? ...
no.
but a link is a link - yeah?

Could you share your experience with backlinks from directories? I am starting more and more to think that they have almost no value and that are a waste of time. What do you think?

Hi Gabriel, a specific resource for your readers regarding free link building is Linknami.com, where users can use text links and free contextual one way link tools to get more quality backlinks to their websites or blogs and internal pages (deep links). They also can get links by posting articles on relevant niche blogs.
